Cardiac and Pulmonary rehabilitation is a multi-disciplinary program that specializes in education and rehabilitation of patients with coronary artery and lung diseases.
For patients that have experienced Chest pain (Angina), suffered a Heart Attack, undergone a percutaneous procedure such as balloon angioplasty or stent placement, or undergone coronary artery bypass or heart valve surgery, they will be referred by their physician to the cardiac rehabilitation program.
For patients that have been diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and have restrictive lung disease, they will be referred by their physician to the pulmonary rehabilitation program.
Cardiac & Pulmonary rehabilitation is located in the multi disciplinary St. Bernards Health Wellness facility. Located on the second floor, the cardiac & pulmonary rehab team uses a state of the art telemetry monitoring system to closely monitor patients who have heart or lung disease. The clinical team composed of exercise physiologist and registered nurses are under the direction of physicians to develop a wellness program for each patient to improve patient’s fitness and to assist patients and their families to learn how to reduce risk for additional heart or lung problems.
We offer a monthly Heart Smart Nutrition class for the community and our patients.
The team works closely with the diabetes management and the medical supervised weight loss program for those patients that need those services.
After the initial cardiac rehab program is completed, we offer a supervised maintenance exercise program and also help transition patients into the St. Bernards Health & Wellness programs.
A variety of workshops, seminars and special programs are also available to meet community education needs.
